WHOIS Lookup

Look up domain registration details including registrar, creation date, expiry date, nameservers, and registrant information.

How to Look Up WHOIS Data

Enter a domain name (e.g. example.com) and click Look Up. The tool queries the WHOIS database and returns the domain's registration details including the registrar (where it was registered), creation date, last updated date, expiry date, nameservers, domain status codes, and registrant organization when available. This information is publicly available through the WHOIS protocol and is useful for domain research, due diligence before purchasing a domain, verifying domain ownership, and investigating suspicious websites.

Understanding WHOIS Data

WHOIS records contain the administrative details of a domain registration. The registrar is the company where the domain was purchased (e.g. GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare). The creation date tells you how old the domain is — older domains tend to have more authority in search engines. The expiry date shows when the registration needs to be renewed. Nameservers indicate which DNS provider the domain uses. Status codes like clientTransferProhibited mean the domain is locked to prevent unauthorized transfers. Note that many registrants use WHOIS privacy services to hide personal contact details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many domain registrars offer WHOIS privacy protection (also called domain privacy) that replaces the registrant's personal details with proxy information. This is enabled by default on most registrars to comply with GDPR and protect personal data.

Common codes include clientTransferProhibited (domain is locked), ok (normal status), and redemptionPeriod (domain has expired and is in the grace period before deletion). A full list is maintained by ICANN.

You can look up most generic TLDs (.com, .net, .org, etc.) and many country-code TLDs. Some registries restrict WHOIS access or return limited data due to privacy regulations.
